Honors Course Information

This course will examine Whitman's poetry and prose for the purpose of determining his unique contributions to the history of American political thought. The primary goal, though, is not to simply explore where and how successfully Whitman wrote about political subject matter but, instead, to ask and answer the much more difficult and rewarding question the formal choices and innovations he made as a poet had a political function regardless of content.

Additional Comments

While my department affiliation auto-filled as history, that designation expired in October 2015 when the organization I work with on campus, the Kinder Institute on Constitutional Democracy, transitioned into operating as an academic center under the Provost, rather than the College of Arts & Science. This is why I listed Justin Dyer, the Kinder Institute Director, as the subject area's chair/director.
Patricia Luckenotte (luckenottep) (Fri, 28 Oct 2016 16:48:59 GMT): Course is listed in myZou as section 06 for Spring 2017
