MLIS in Library and Information Science with Emphasis in Health and Medical Librarianship
The Health and Medical emphasis area within the MLIS degree is designed to prepare students to work in either medical libraries or specialized consumer health positions in library and information settings. This interdisciplinary specialization includes classes from the Public Health and Health Administration programs within the College of Health Sciences. Students will be prepared to work in health and medical environments supporting doctors and researchers, or in traditional library settings where they will be prepared to work as liaisons with health professionals or in consumer health roles.
Degree Requirements
The MLIS program consists of 39 credit hours with 19 credits of required courses. Each student completes a practicum (two to three credits).
Elective courses are selected in consultation with faculty advisers and specifically must include 15 credit hours of 9000-level courses, and 12 hours of courses taught by a full-time faculty member.

Applicants are required to meet two sets of minimum qualifications for admission: The minimum requirements of the Master of Library & Information Science program and the minimum requirements of the Graduate School. Because requirements vary, you must refer to a degree program's graduate admission page to learn about specific admission criteria, application deadlines, eligibility and application process. Your application materials will be reviewed by both the Graduate School and the degree program to which you’ve applied before official admission to the University of Missouri.
