Graduate Academic Minors - Graduate Students
Designated minors
A designated minor consists of nine to 15 hours of coursework formally approved as a graduate minor by an academic program or interdisciplinary group and the Graduate Faculty Senate. A list of designated minors can be found on the Degrees and Programs page of the Graduate School website. In addition, the inclusion and completion of a designated minor must be approved by the director of graduate studies (or academic program chair/program director) of the academic program or interdisciplinary group offering the minor. Designated minors are listed on a student's transcript.
Non-designated minors
Non-designated minors consist of course work constituting a unified plan of study that includes a minimum of nine hours of graduate course work. These minors should be listed on a student’s plan of study; however, they are not listed on a student’s transcript.
Obtaining approval for a minor
Both designated and non-designated minors must be approved by the student’s major advisor, the student’s academic program director of graduate studies, and the Graduate School.
