Certificate in Writing for the Stage and Screen

The Certificate in Writing for the Stage and Screen offers students rigorous, hands-on training in the art and craft of writing for the stage and screen. Through a sequenced curriculum that emphasizes both creative practice and analytical skills, students will develop the tools to create original works, engage in new play development, and contribute meaningfully to the interpretive process of theatre-making. By the completion of the program, students will have produced a portfolio of original plays and/or screenplays. Students will be able to seek various careers including play or screenplay writing, creative writing, technical writing, drama teaching, English literary teaching, communication teaching, film or video editing, and/or other related theatre, film, video production related areas.

Requirements

The certificate consists of at least 12 credits; at least 9 credits must be taken in MU course work. Students must meet the minimum GPA requirements for a certificate, which in no case can be lower than 2.0. In addition, a student cannot receive a grade lower than a C- in any course applied towards a certificate in the College. For more information, please see Requirements for an Optional Certificate.
