Minor in Missouri Studies

Description

The Missouri Studies Minor offers a flexible, interdisciplinary exploration of the state’s politics, economy, culture, environment, and social landscape from its founding to today. Students will learn to apply critical research, analysis, and communication skills to the examination of Missouri’s historical development and contemporary issues. The minor prepares students who remain in-state to become effective leaders in their career fields, regardless of major; trains students with skills for rigorous regional and local study that can be applied anywhere; and cultivates in students a deep connection to and appreciation for the Missouri experience whether they are lifelong residents or new to the state.

Requirements

  • The minor will require a minimum of 15 credit hours
  • At least 9 of those hours must be taken from a list of core courses
  • At least 9 of the 15 must be completed in residence at the level of 2000 or above
  • A minimum GPA of 2.00 is required for all minor courses; grades below a C- will not be accepted

A minor consists of at least 15 credits, including at least 6 credits numbered 2000 or above, 9 of the required credits must be taken in MU course work. This requirement can be reduced from 9 to 6 at the discretion of an individual department. Students must meet the minimum GPA requirements for a minor, which in no case can be lower than 2.0.
