Minor in Special Education

The Minor in Special Education is designed to prepare students with the knowledge and skills necessary to support individuals with and at risk for disabilities. This program emphasizes an understanding of historical and legal foundations, evidence-based instructional and behavioral practices, and effective collaboration with families and professionals. Students completing the minor will be equipped to promote positive outcomes for individuals with and at-risk for disabilities across diverse educational, service provider, and community settings.

The courses are offered online and/or on-campus. Students can complete courses in either format. 

Requirements

This minor in Special Education consists of 15 hours, 6 hours of which are required and 9 hours which are electives. Please work with your advisor to choose appropriate courses. Students will be required to receive a grade of C- or better and a 2.0 overall minimum GPA in courses for the minor. The minor is to be completed and awarded at the same time as the MU undergraduate degree.
