The faculty and staff of the Department of Psychological Sciences are committed to providing students with a high quality, broadly-based, scientifically-grounded, and inclusive undergraduate and graduate education. Understanding that undergraduate students use the psychology major as preparation for a variety of careers in health, education, scientific research, business and industry, the department offers a wide range of courses and professional development opportunities. While some undergraduates are interested in pursuing psychology-related interests in graduate school, most are interested in pursuing careers immediately after graduation. Undergraduate opportunities help prepare students for both post-graduation paths through coursework, service and applied learning, and mentored research opportunities. For graduate students, our department follows a student-focused, mentorship-based model for training in psychological science. The major emphasis of our graduate program is preparing students for careers that involve conducting, disseminating, and applying research. Graduate students gain strong training in statistics, methodology, and scientific writing, as well as specialized training in their area of emphasis. Regardless of an undergraduate or graduate student's ultimate goals, faculty members believe that students will be best served by completing a rigorous research-oriented program of study. Therefore, students should expect instructors to take a scientific approach to the psychological content of each course.

The department offers Bachelor of Arts (BA) degrees in Psychological Sciences (on-campus) and Psychology (online) and a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree (on-campus) in Psychological Sciences. A minor in Psychological Sciences is offered as well as undergraduate certificates in Neuroscience and Addiction Studies. The Master of Arts (MA) and doctorate (PhD)degrees have emphasis in Clinical Psychology, Cognition & Neuroscience, Developmental Psychology, Quantitative Psychology, and Social & Personality Psychology. A graduate minor in Psychological Statistics and Methods and a graduate certificate in Lifespan Development are offered.

However, social psychologists have historically been interested in the ways that this process leads to errors or biases in a vast array of human endeavors. This perspective has had a strong impact on the trajectory of social cognition.
