MM in Music with Emphasis in Piano Pedagogy
Program Description
The Master of Music with an Emphasis in Piano Pedagogy degree develops skills in studio piano teaching, performance, research, communication, and related areas such as literature, age-level appropriateness, and business aspects. This is achieved through coursework, individual instruction, laboratory experience, and a culminating research paper or recital. Supporting studies in history and theoretical analysis provide depth of teaching at all levels and connecting students with broader musical contexts. After completing the program, students will have refined teaching and performance abilities that will allow them to enter the field directly or to pursue additional graduate study at the doctoral level in piano pedagogy or piano performance.

Total of 32 credits as indicated above are required to graduate with a Master’s of Music in Piano Pedagogy.

Comprehensive Exam: Students will be expected to complete and pass a comprehensive exam in piano pedagogy during their final semester of coursework.
Reminder: All studies in music must be at the 7000 or 8000 level, and at least 15 must be at the 8000 level. No more than one course with a grade lower than B- may count towards completion of the degree.
